--If the applications in your computer open too slowly, you can improve by turning off some visual effects of Windows. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Advanced Options tab, and under Performance, click Settings. Beneath the Visual Effect tab, select Adjust for best performance or Custom, then turn off all unnecessary effects.

--To do this in Windows 98, 2000 or Me, right-click on the desktop and select Properties. Click Effects tab, uncheck the items in the Visual Effect until you see its speed better. --Performance Options dialog box in Windows XP allows you to control limit the memory usage of Windows and the priority of tasks to processors in the computer. Otherwise click Turn Off Your Computer, then you hold down the Shift key to select Standby icon for Hibernate, then click the mouse to select it.
